.Fiji - $7 Specimen Note Dated 2016 Olympic Game Gold Winning Commemorative, s. Barry Whiteside

Republic of Fiji
(since 1987)

Reserve Bank of Fiji
Currency : Dollar (FJD)

This is the commemorative specimen note of the $7 which was first released on 20.04.2017. This note is dated 2016 and was issued to celebrate Fiji winning the Rugby Sevens Gold medal in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Brazil Olympics games. This is indeed a very proud achievement for this tiny nation in the pacific region. This is the first time that Fiji have won a gold medal in any sports in the Olympic Winter or Summer Games. Apart from Australia and New Zealand, to date, I believe Fiji is the only pacific nation that has won an Olympic gold medal. The other pacific nation that came close in winning a gold medal was the Kingdom of Tonga. In the 1996 Atlanta USA Olympics games, Tonga won a silver medal.

The Fiji National Rugby Sevens Team is the greatest rugby sevens team in the world as they are the only nation that have won the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Rugby Sevens Olympic game.

Unlike all previous banknotes printed by De La Rue since 1914, this commemorative note was printed by the French security printing company, Oberthur Fiduciaire.

Here I have posted the specimen commemorative note. This note is perforated cancelled with the word "SPECIMEN".
