I believe these are the four reprints of the 2008 series released on 21.01.2009. According to the National Reserve Bank of Tonga, this is a 2012 series. The difference between these issues and those first released in 2009 are the signatures on the notes. There are no changes to the designs on either side of the note. These notes were later replaced by the 2015 series with the new King printed on the notes. The
design on the reverse of the one pa'anga note is very beautiful. Whale watching is very popular in Tonga. The whales migrate each year from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to the warm and sheltered waters of Tonga to mate or have their calf.
On the front, it featured the late King George Topou V in full military uniform. King Topou V was born in 1948 and died in 2012 at the age of 63 years old. He inherited the throne in 2006 following the death of his father, King Táufa'áhau Tupou lV (b.1918-2006).
