..Tonga - 1 Pa'anga ND1992, s. Fatafehi Tu'ielehake and James Cecil Crocker

 Puleʻanga Fakatuʻi ʻO Tonga
(Kingdom of Tonga)

Pangike Pule Fakafanua 'O Tonga
(National Reserve Bank of Tonga)
Currency - Pa'anga (TOP)

This is an odd note of 1 pa'anga issued in (nd)1992 featuring the late Tongan King Taufa'ahau Topou IV.

The signatures on this note belonged to; -
Prime Minister - Fatafehi Tu'ielehake; and
Minister of Finance - James Cecil Crocker

Fatafehi Tu'ielehake was the Prime Minister of Tonga from 1965 to 1991. He was born in 1922 and died in 1999, aged 77 years old. Interesting fact is that he took over the role of the Prime Minister when the then Prime Minister and also his eldest brother crowned prince Táufa'áhau Tupou lV resigned and became the King of Tonga, following the death of his mother, Queen Sálote Tupou lll at the age of 65 years old (reigned from 1918 to 1965). Fatafehi Tu'ielehake was the youngest son of Queen Sálote Tupou lll.

James Cecil Crocker was the Finance Minister of Tonga between 1982-1991. Nothing much is known about him except his appointment to the Tongan cabinet.

Officially, this note belongs to the 1992 series even though both the then Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance left their cabinet positions in 1991. This note was issued by the newly formed National Reserve Bank of Tonga (established in 1989) which took over the responsibility of issuing all Tongan banknotes from the Treasury of the Government of Tonga.

This is the only note I have in my collection. A full set consists of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 pa'anga.
