Further to my previous posting on 09.04.2022, here I have posted a folder issue of two $7 commemorative note of Fiji issued in 2017, and 2022.

 

These two notes were issued to celebrate Fiji's tremendous achievement in its sporting history since Melbourne 1956. In Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic games, Fiji men won the Rugby 7s gold medal for the first time. In Tokyo 2020(2021), the men team successfully defended their title, and not just only this, but for the first time, the women team also won a bronze medal too. Needless to that, this is their best performance results for the country by winning two medals in one Olympics.

On 28.03.2022, a $7 banknote was issued to celebrate this wonderful achievement. Apart from the single note, and uncut sheet, it also put together a folder set with the 2017 and 2022 notes. These two notes are from the normal issues, and as such there are no differences from those issued for circulations earlier.

Printer - Oberthur Fiduciaire, France (no imprinter name printed) ;
Quantity - Banknote 2.0M pieces;
Prefix - AU (as in gold) and AZ (replacement)
Colour - Predominantly blue

Dimensions - 140mm x 67.5mm

Reverse - "Fiji Rugby 7s Gold Olympians" team with the Prime Minister Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama and team officials celebrating the win. Bainimarama is also the President of the Fiji Rugby Union. This is the first time a sitting Prime Minister is appearing on a banknote in Fiji.

The note features the watermark of Ms Reapi Ulunisau with a rugby ball running. She competed in the women's Rugby 7s game at the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Baber took over the coaching role in 2016 and his role is now taken over by Ben Gollings since December 2021. The coach for the 2016 team that won their first Olympics gold was Ben Ryan. It would be interesting to see if the men team can win again in 2024, in Paris, France. Ben Gollings's term is for 3 years, and he is expected to lead the team in Paris 2024. Just say this, but with no pressure, Ben! The women team is headed by coach Saiasi Fuli. No doubt that if the Fiji men team wins again. we would expect another banknote to commemorating this wonderful achievement. Again Ben Gollings, no pressure!
