...Fiji - (nd)1989-1991 Set of 4 Specimen Notes, s. Ratu Jone Yavala Kubuabola

Republic of Fiji
(since 1987)

Reserve Bank of Fiji
Currency - Dollar (FJD)

Here are the 4 specimen notes first issued in 1989*. This series consists of 4 notes - $1, $2, $5 and $10 (nd1991). This series is all printed with a fractional prefix i.e. D/18 000000 just like all previous issues. However, this is also the last time such prefix format is printed as all issues after this were all printed with single or double letter prefixes. All notes are measured at 156mm x 67mm.

The first 3 notes were released in 1989 and the $10 was issued in 1991. This is the last time a $1 banknote is issued by the central bank. The colour printed on this $1 note is predominantly green. Previous note was printed in light brown colour.

Footnote➦
*I understand that many websites or even banknotes catalogues have listed these notes as nd1991. However I have reason to believe these were actually first released in 1989 and the $10 was released in 1991. A reprint of this series was issued in 1992 with additional segmented foil over the security strip added to the notes. Only 3 notes issued in 1992 - $5, $10 and $20.
